Hi! I’m Alisha, welcome to my page. I am a history student here at Thompson Rivers University and am also working towards getting my TESL certificate. When I’m not in school I enjoy skiing, hiking, reading, and competing on my horse Chrome. I have always lived in the interior of British Columbia, but I am fortunate enough to have parents that liked to travel and have instilled that interest in me. During all of the trips we took, I always had a keen interest in the history of each country and city which led me to my decision to take history in university. My academic goal is to obtain my PhD and become a professor. Along with teaching English, I want to work overseas to be able to learn the history of places I didn’t get the chance to during my undergraduate studies.
I’ve always been fascinated with language and how it fits into the culture of a society, and how they help shape one another. Language has the ability to connect different people and cultures together. Languages are also practical. English is the most studied language in the world. As I am a native English speaker, with an interest in learning other cultures as well as becoming a professor one day, I was drawn to becoming an ESL teacher. In this site you will find information about myself, my qualifications, my teaching philosophy, as well as blog posts about my journey to becoming a certified ESL teacher. So once again, welcome!
