In this class we had five students who are at a level 3 in speaking. This class focused on the topic of travel with the goal to have the students speaking fluently.
The class this week was okay I think. The change in the roles went over well. We decided to just have a discussion leader that will rotate each week, and most of the students seemed quite receptive to it. After talking with our supervising teacher I agree that the quieter students could benefit from a little bit more structure. This week my peer teacher and I were evaluated and had a different teacher debriefing with us. I really enjoyed hearing another perspective that we don’t normally get to hear. I’m really looking forward to implementing some of the suggestions we heard to increase our students engagement. The slight tweaks we talked about I think will really improve our lesson. Next week we will be changing our discussion questions to opinions that they can talk on. Since we have already covered some opinion based speaking points in the past, it will be a good chance for the students to practice this.
In my own personal teaching, I think my explanations are getting a little bit clearer but I still think I can use some more simple language. I tried to engage myself more in the lesson and speak up a bit more and I think I was able to do that which is great. Next week I will continue to focus on my instructions and try to improve that.
